Tonight: Detroit Party Marching Band, Japanese Gum, Evil Things, Scott Rankie, Lac la Belle

There's usually so much winking and smirking going on behind band names that it's almost comical to find out that the Detroit Party Marching Band is just that: a marching band from Detroit that appears at parties. Over the past year or so, the group has been randomly assembling at events and gatherings, bringing a bit of New Orleans jazz decadence to the decaying rustbelt enclave, and earning a reputation as as a guerilla/flash spectacle. Now the group has converted an old school bus into a gray RV that looks like it just rolled out of a cemetary, and will be rolling into Buffalo as part of their tour of the Northeast.

Tonight's eclectic show at the Vault (702 Main St, $5-7, 8pm) is to be rounded out by fellow Motor City Americana duo Lac la Belle, Buffalo's own decadent rock party machine The Evil Things, the one-man honky-tonk extravaganza of Chicago's Scott Rankie, and, grounding us back in the world of ironic band names, the electronic glitch duo Japanese Gum (from Italy).

We hope DPMB breaks out a rendition of “The Victors” to get us pumped up for The Big Game. Either way, come out and cheer, winking and smirkingly recalling the day you decided not to actually care about sporting events ever.

...Go Bills. (Also, Lions.)
