Tonight: The Genkin Philharmonic West

Tonight UB's Lippes Concert Hall(North Campus) plays host to electro-acoustic mecha-ensemble the Genkin Philharmonic West. The Genkin Philharmonic is led by director / trumpet player Jon Nelson, and features an ever-evolving lineup of educated professional musicians, including Hallwalls' music curator / sax player Steve Basczkowsi, and Lazlo Holyfield's Matt Felski and Jeff McLeod. They blend contemporary rock with traditional chamber music, while staying true to the original arrangements they are playing. Playing songs written by artists like Frank Zappa, King Crimson, Radiohead, and mixing in compositions from modern composers like Charles Ives, Serge Prokofiev, and even the GP's own Jon Nelson, they cover nearly every musical style imaginable in every performance. There's no telling which musicians will be featured in tonight's performance of the Genkin Philharmonic West, but odds are it will be a different incantation than the band's basic 10-piece arrangement. Orchestral arrangement aside, this will no doubt be a fantastic show, and the Lippes Concert Hall is an amazing venue to see any show. The show gets started around 7:30pm, and tickets will cost you $10.
