Tonight Mohawk Place plays host to the ghostly sound of The Mumlers, a wildly original indie folk hextet that features a mass array of instruments. Named after 19th century photographer William Mumler, notorious for photographing spirits, the group insists they got their name from a Ouija board. Creating a sound that is reminiscent of a folkier Black Keys with a full band at their disposal, the Mumlers incorporate a lot of instruments you wouldn't see on a rock stage. Aside from guitar, drums, and the less popular, but still not too obscure organ, the band mixes in stand-up bass, french horn, clarinet, a lap steel, and just recently began playing a few eagle whistles they picked up in Mexico. The bands occasionally mellow sounds, their live shows are wildly entertaining, and the band often dances aloofly while playing. Opening up for them will be the steel guitar driven, Hank Williams' inspired Americana stylings of Buffalo's own the Evil Things. The show gets started around 9pm.
