I first heard some new tracks off Megafaun's new self-titled album on a recent episode of NPR's All Songs Considered and was instantly a fan. The album opens with the beautiful track "Real Slow" - - a soft opening with a very strong Grateful Dead vibe. Overall, the album has a folk-rock sound to it but a few tracks like "Serene Return" will surprise you with the use of synths and vocal effects. My favorite track from the album is the 8 minute track "Get Right" that features Justin Vernon (aka Bon Iver) on guitar and exists as a perfect soundtrack to the changing fall season. Other highlights from the album are the beautiful piano intro to "Hope You Know" and the closing track "Everything" that features Frazey Ford on vocals. Overall, this album won't change your life with brand new musical sounds, but its the perfect album to put on your headphones and escape into for an hour.
