Everything... is an appropriate way to shorten the name of Sea Lions’ debut album – it sounds like the band members threw all their influences in a blender to make a musical smoothie. First, there’s lead singer Adrian Pillado’s voice – obviously reminiscent of Calvin Johnson (Beat Happening, the Halo Benders). Then there’s the jangly 60’s pop vibe on tracks like “I Loved Her So Much” and “Grown Up.”

The album runs the gamut from psychedelia to surf-pop, upbeat to melancholy… yet it feels consistent from start to finish. Maybe that’s because Sea Lions has a knack for combining familiar sounds in a way that makes them feel new and original.

Though Pillado formed Sea Lions back in 2007, it wasn’t until earlier this year that the band signed with Slumberland Records to make Everything… The four years allowed Sea Lions to hone their sound and write some really catchy tracks. Check out their song “Grown Up” below.
