buffaBLOG's 12 Days of Christmas: Day 4 - A Garage-Punk Christmas

If the movie Scrooged has taught us anything, it's that not everybody has those perfect Christmas moments with caroling, a fine turkey dinner, aunts & uncles wearing goofy sweaters, candy canes, stockings, and kissing that neighbor girl under the missletoe . Some people's maladjusted families have their way of destroying attempts by other members to maintain a sense of civility and tradition, often causing children to dream for a "perfect Christmas". Unfortunately for society, those children grow into (usually)non-religious alcoholics that end up attempting to re-create their own "perfect Christmas", and end up with holiday that isn't rooted in religious tradition at all; but is merely a drunken fiesta celebrating Santa Claus, the tree, and the more materialistic and nostalgic side of the holiday. Enter the Murder City Devils. This late 90's Seattle post-grunge ensemble released a Christmas themed 7" in 1998, with a Christmas drinking song entitled "364 Days", intended for the ears of good ole' St. Nick. This can be the lonliest time of the year for some, and this is a track that encourages Santa to stop and take a load off his busy night with a little bit of body warming whiskey. Santa is alone up there in the North Pole, just as some of us are down here in the USA, so let's enjoy the one night we have company (even if they are just sneaking in down the chimney to drop off coal for the fire). Santa Baby, this shot's for you!
