The thing the pisses me off about this remix is that it disproves my theory that everything that wobbles is crap. Alpha Data's treatment of Brothers Past's "Bitches and Candy" is tiptoeing on a balance beam, with generic pitfalls threatening to consume it should it lose it's footing. What sets the track apart is it's sense of melody, which it has no shortage to pull from considering the original's 9 minutes of delightfully unpredictable meandering. The Philadelphia scene from which they sprung has become an animal unto itself over the past decade, but where their peers seem content to chase after genres in a pathetic game of catch up, Brothers Past remain one of the few still making an effort to break new ground. It's nice to see that good producers are taking notice.
