Swedish electronic producer The Field's brand of ambient minimal techno thrives on drawn out loops that make for a spacey, reflective take on dance music. His remix of Tame Impala's "Mind Mischief" takes the psych rock jam and turns it into a ten minute display of ambient loops and features a bassline that gives the song a downtempo feel. Choking down a lot of pop music can often make one's jaw tense. When seeking relief from this self-inflicted ailment, you need only seek remixed versions of your favorite radio-played ditties. Recently, I've fallen for British singer-songwriter Daley who is obviously influenced by jazz-pop all-stars Jamiroquai. Daley's song "Remember Me," featuring Jessie J, has been caught in my head. Luckily, the insanely talented MJ Cole, British Two-step and Garage producer, has put his own touches on this track leaving me jaw-ached and wishing I could put my own touches on Jessie J's body. How is everyone's Tuesday? Is it smooth? Are you having a smooth Tuesday? My guess is probably not. Let's face it, it is rainy and dreary and you are probably at work. Well, we here at buffaBLOG have a way to make your Tuesday 50% more smooth (we cannot really do anything above 50%, sorry) and that is Elite Gymnastics' remix of How to Dress Well's "& It Was You." The remix takes How to Dress Well's slinky and minimal original and fills it out with strings and piano. The result is a lusher version that maintains the mood and tone of the original.
I wrote this yesterday because I'm most likely spending today drowning in Excedrin and Chinese food. Welcome to 2013! If you're like me, you've read enough end of year lists overrating Japandroids, it's time to dive into new music for the new year. Everything Everything dropped a few new singles last year to tease their upcoming sophomore album Arc, which is easily my most anticipated release of 2013. Their debut album Man Alive was a whirlwind of prog rock excess, glass cracking falsetto vocals, and Queen-esque harmonies, all while still managing to be an accessible pop masterpiece. With their new single, "Kemosabe", Com Truise couldn't resist getting swept up in their addictive sound, resulting in one of the most energetic remixes I've heard from the New Jersey based producer.
British Indie songwriter King Krule, formerly known as Zoo Kid, is known for his dark sounding songs that couple his rich baritone voice with UK dubstep influences to create a haunting atmosphere for his melodic guitar work. Showing off his production skills, he recently reworked Brooklyn MC Angel Haze's breakout track "New York." While the original relies on the straightforward rhythm led by the handclaps sampled from Gil-Scott Heron's "New York is Kiling Me," King Krule sets the fiery, crass vocals of Haze to a beat heavily indebted to early UK dubstep to give the track a feel that is as much London as it is early 90's Brooklyn. The fact that an 18-year-old British kid has made one of the most striking hip-hop instrumentals of this year is reason enough for you to check out this rework below.
Jerome LOL might be doing something very interesting, and by that I mean he is an artist I am taking seriously despite his use of LOL as a name. For this week's remix LOL has taken The-Dream's demo of "Can't Wait to Hate You," and sped it up to a chipmunk pitch. The result is a shimmering song driven by a clicking beat that turns the song's original wistful tone to something more empowering (chanting "today I'm gonna get over you" throughout). LOL's aesthetic, which this track sums up well, and transforms the R&B song, underscoring its soaring pop elements.

Pogo (who goes under the username "faggatron") is sort of a Youtube sensation, having gained a reputation for transforming nostalgic audio clips, mainly from classic Disney movies, into hard hitting, electronic dance tracks. Under his Youtube channel is a bombardment of such remixes, remixes of movies outside of the sphere of Disney classics, from Pulp Fiction to The Little Princess. His unique formula, a marriage between current remix trends and classic movie sound bytes, has been received more than favorably by Youtube audiences, with most of his videos having generated more than a million hits. He has also uploaded tutorials that explain how one could go about creating their own movie remixes, although he probably secretly knows that no one will be able to pull it off quite like he does.
So, here's to electronic music junkies that have never been able to reckon their nightlife with the Norse-tongue loving dweeb inside of them.
Some people criticized Miike Snow's sophomore album Happy To You for missing that "Animal" esque club ready track. Some people are idiots. Dem Slackers, however, have cultivated a gobsmacking remix of "Pretender" to silence the drop deprived masses. Yet, for all it's generic predictability, the track just works. Andrew Wyatt's muted, whispering delivery can add emotional depth to even the most clinical sounding instrumentals. Now you can instagram yourself looking emo at the club too.
Major Lazer hardly ever fails to release a mind-blowing remix. Their remix of Gyptian's "Hold Yuh" is still one of my most frequently played tracks since I heard it after it's release in 2010. After hearing their remix of London electro-pop band Hot Chip's "Look At Where We Are," I can add another Major Lazer remix to my go-to list.
While the original hums sadness and tear drops, Major Lazer took that vibe, hyped it up, and tears right through it. Although the vocals are maintained and some of the sound samples, the additional lasers, drums and the faster BPM gives this version a little more drive. The build-up of sweet guitar riffs followed by the manic peak at 02:10 is invigorating. And for all of those participating in the War on Genres and have an opposition with trap, put your bias aside and give this one a chance.
Sometimes a great way to have sex with someone who is kinda awkward is over the phone. "Phone Sex" the title of this track by Blood Diamonds and Grimes is an appropriate title for this dream pop anthem created by the two weirdoes. Which you'll find here, is energetically remixed by another sexy weirdo Unicorn Kid. Enjoy.
Amidst the chaotic comeback-pullback that has accompanied Passion Pit's release of Gossamer, some interesting remixes of the albums tracks have surfaced, including this particular one by DJ/Producer Sinden, famous for his radio show on Kiss FM UK featuring the world of eclectic electronic club music. As a producer, he is one of Mad Decent's artists, and also heads Grizzly record label which holds the likes of Distal, Brodinski, and Brenmar. In this remix of Passion Pit's "Take a Walk," Sinden literally takes his bassline edit for a walk uniquely transforming the original into a wavy club relic tune. It has the feel of an early 90s house track. Check out the new music video for the song, along with this bangin' remix below. Folk feelings of abandonment in a sizzurp slur, baauer's remix of "Winter Is All Over You" is beautifully composed and appropriately remixed. Brooklyn based trap producer baauer, takes the delicate plucking and crooning vocals of Johanna and Klara Söderberg, the sisters who form First Aid Kit, and adds chopped and screwed vocals, bass, and hypnotic panning. He gives it more audio depth while still maintaining the heavy set tone of their lyrical endeavor.
If this is the first you've heard of First Aid Kit, keep listening. Good news for you, they'll be in town on Monday, July 30.
The original track for this week's remix is probably one of the hottest Hip-Hop songs in the world right now right now, topping the Billboard charts since it's release several weeks ago. New York and L.A. producers RL GRIME and SALVA have teamed up to bring this remix to the people. The original song is a trap bass anthem produced by Kanye West, Lifted, Mike Dean, and Mike Will with some of the instrumentation provided by Hudson Mohawke. This remixed version of the song is chopped up and twisted for the atmosphere of the dancefloor while still keeping some of the feel from the original. The loveable indie tune "What You Know" by Two Door Cinema Club is given a little speed boost in this LightsoverLA remix. Not entirely stripped and manipulated, this remix adds minor tweaks and some four-on-the-floor beats to make it slightly more "dancey." My personal favorite aspect of the song is the extended intro and the way the vocals come in with a fader effect. It brings club influences into the track without making it too commercial and the edits are subtle enough that you can listen as you walk around with your iPod and not feel like you just stepped through the doors of a drunken mob at Bayou Nightclub.
As a dance music lover, this track had my ears perked instantly. If dance music just isn't your forte, give it a listen. It keeps the indie vibe so intact that you may hardly notice yourself bouncing in your seat.
Not exactly a remix, but I just can't get enough of these kids out of Montreal. Adventure Club have been pumping out remix after remix the last couple months and each one is as good as the last. This tune is their new track, entitled "Wait", and includes vocal samples from the Yeah Yeah Yeah's "Maps." "Wait" is filled with electric bass lines keeping to true Adventure Club fashion and will have you begging for more.
This week's remix plays a new MJ Cole take on the pre-released single by Totally Enormous Extinct Dinosaurs "Tapes & Money." The original track is set to come out on T-E-E-D's debut album called Trouble dropping on June 11th. Orlando Higgenbottom, known as T-E-E-D, has captivated the dance music scene with his Minimal Indie-Electronic productions, most of which have yet to debut on this his rookie album. MJ Cole a vet of the UK bass scene, takes this tune for a walk. Though MJ Cole's roots are in Drum and Bass, his productions are more in the genre of UK Garage and Funky House. This remix is a minimal take on Garage with a funky bassline that will have you strutting around with a new-found swagger.
If you think your band has made left turns from album to album, think again. The Bronx went from ferocious punk band to straight faced mariachi band as seamlessly as one could expect from such a bold transition. The band, hailing from Los Angeles (that makes sense), released their second mariachi themed album Mariachi El Bronx II (their fifth overall) to universal acclaim last year. Decked out in full mariachi gear, the eight piece are bringing their live show to Mohawk Place this Saturday. In case we haven't done enough genre jumping in this post, Argentina based group SUPER GUACHIN have given the remix treatment to "Revolution Girl". Give the remix a listen and make sure you get down to Mohawk this weekend for another great performance in what I'm considering to be Buffalo's best live music season ever.

Obviously, it had to be our weekly remix. His remix of "Nude" is now one of four posted on his bandcamp page and possibly my favorite. I have listened to countless remixes of the tracks off Radiohead's infamous In Rainbows and its easy to go wrong when messing with such an amazing album. Voodoo Friends does a great job maintaining the beauty from the track while making it his own with whatever you dj masterminds do with these machines. Its great. I hope you enjoy.
Lately, it seems that the theme for the weekly remix has been finding the coolest remixes to ridiculously catchy radio play songs that you hear all the time. I was about to add another to the list with a really good remix of a top-40 song but then I thought to save it for a rainy day. Wait. It is rainy, and cold. We'll need a happy song than. Something to lift people's spirits. I got it. The perfect song, and a great remix.
This band has been on the brain frequently as of late as many fans are anticipating the release of their new album. Passion Pit, leading man and voice of the famous pop band Mike Angelakos announced that their second full length release will be titled Gossamer and will be released July 24th, 2012.
This remix of the song "Sleepyhead" has been in rotation for me for over a year now, but it is such a fun listen. The remix is very uplifting and dancy, even more-so than the original. And it kind of has an OG Madonna-esqe 80s wavy feel. Hard not to tap the feet or at least smile when listening. Smile.
