The Beach Boys will also have a special place in my heart. I remember driving around in my father's car when I was younger listening to those tunes that made me think as a young kid that maybe summer could go on forever. This is Buffalo though, so we know that is not true. Anyways, I never realized at the time how important they were in rock history, how vital their songs and albums were in popular music. Pet Sounds, Brian Wilson's answer to Sgt Pepper, in many people's eyes is the greatest album in rock history, and if you don't choke up even the slightest while listening to "God Only Knows", then you may not actually have a soul.
The surviving original members of the group reunited this past Sunday at the Grammys, performing "Good Vibrations" and you know what, they sounded pretty damn good, despite Mike Love acting kind of creepy and Wilson appearing to not quite know where he was at the start of the tune. To the surprise of no one, the group is hitting the road this summer, but what did surprise me is that one of the stops will be right here in Buffalo at Darien Lake's Performing Arts Center. The band will be performing on June 29th. Tickets go on sale next Saturday, Feb 25th. Prices are not available yet, but I imagine this will not be cheap by any means. Now lets all sit back and dream of summer.
