Just Announced: The Hip-Hop Gods Tour

I don't know if this was actually "just announced," but it just came to my attention and I have to go with it because it's imperative. I have to...

On Saturday March 24th, Shea's Performing Arts Center is going to be jumping as The Hip-Hip Gods Tour comes to Buffalo, and the name of the tour is no joke- these are true Gods of Hip-Hop. Public Enemy. EPMD. Doug E Fresh. Kool Moe Dee. Black Sheep. Back when hip-hop had "schools" and didn't suck,* these were the Kings of the "new school," the artists who stood on the foundations laid by the originators of the genre and brought it to the next level (before it got all gansta'd out, commercialized and homogenized). This is a show that is not to be missed. Check it out- a soundtrack to our lives (not to be confused with the Swedish band The Soundtrack Of Our Lives)...

Public Enemy, the band that once terrified America (and radicalized me back when I was in high school):

EPMD (Erick and Parrish Making Dollars for those that don't know). Check these lyrics out- these dudes were totally examining the crossroads the hip-hop genre was approaching, and about to trip over:

Kool Moe Dee:

Doug E Fresh:

Black Sheep (the original hipster hip-hop... before there were hipsters):

Tickets go on sale to the public this Friday and are $49 and $59 (plus fees). An Internet pre-sale starts today and ends tomorrow. The (true!) Hip-Hop Gods at Shea's March 24... you can't go wrong, and respect is due.

* OK, of course not all current hip- hop sucks. Far from it, but let's be honest here kids, we all know that it ain't what it used to be. You know what I mean.
