I have always been a huge fan of Sufjan Stevens, mostly for his industrious, outward thinking in the way he chooses to diversify his style with every new music project he does. His latest endeavor is a project called s / s / s which consists of Stevens, electro-pop artist Son Lux, and rapper Serengeti. The artists have collaborated in order to release their new EP Beak & Claw via Anticon, due out March 20.
First off, if you haven’t heard of Son Lux, you really need to get on that. Last February he was challenged by The Wire to write, compose, record, master, and release a full-length album in one month. It was also documented on NPR's website. The end product, We Are Rising, turned out to be an incredible album and went on to receive very positive reviews. Sufjan met Serengeti in 2009 when the two collaborated, amongst others, to create a cover of the Castanet's song “You Are the Blood” for Red Hot’s Dark Was The Night compilation. Also, to top things off, My Brightest Diamond’s Shara Worden will also be getting a piece of the action and singing back-up vocals on the EP. Seriously, this is a pretty extensive collaboration for a four-song EP (then again, Sufjan and company have been known to push the EP envelope in the past: see 17 minute track, "Djohariah"). While no songs from Beak and Claw have been released yet, the track listing is below.
Tracklist:
01: "Museum Day"
02: "Beyond Any Doubt"
03: "If This Is Real"
04: "Octomom"
