The Drum Machine Report

late night edition

The scene’s stirred up like a rum and coke as of late with lots of news coming down the wire. Firstly the announcement of the AVICII show in Buffalo at the First Niagara Center created quite a hubbub. Obviously the 18,500+ is NOT going to happen. I imagine only the floor level will be open for us Buffalonians. But it’s quite a conundrum as to why is it here in Buffalo. One might assume they would just stick to the arenas in NYC, Miami, Vegas, etc. Alas, is anyone really upset about it? Maybe just foggily intrigued like myself. The guy, the Swede has taken over the Dance music world. And probably rightly so. He makes poppy EDM music. And he’s selling out arenas, well not ours. Not to mention it helps to be signed to probably the most powerful record label, Universal. Many people will go, including myself, because we enjoy music. He probably got lost in translation to what Madonna was haphazardly promoting when the EDM scandal of the century was happening. Ooh, Perez, where you at? Fuck em all.

The massive outdoor music events that were in the works for the Outer Harbor were NOT approved by the City of Buffalo. The decision was punctuated by the sentiment that they’ve got enough going on already with TATS, Rocks the Harbor, Rock the Knox. They do, but I don’t think Buffalo Place deserves a monopoly over the market. There is no purpose in detaining the private sector from holding such events. The promoters who involved in pushing for the permissions are right. There should be an outdoor venue in between the sizes of Darien and Artpark. What better place than the waterfront? Duh, look at Molson Amphitheater in Toronto or the Susquehanna Bank center in Philadelphia (Camden, NJ). Everyone has clamored for an new Stadium to be built downtown, on the waterfront, but why not build a 15-20,000 seat venue right on the water? Then you can have public AND private events there. Let us return to our rudimentary need for a public forum, where entertainment can happen. It wouldn’t be too difficult. Although they appear to be permanently retaining the stage and sub-building they erected at Commercial Slip for the Buffalo Place events. All that said I just hope this doesn’t mean the worst for other outdoor events being planned for this Summer, including the one you may have heard in the works from the Queen City Cartel. But that’s not announced yet, so no further will we go. Just wait patiently.

Just announced was RONI SIZE at Town Ballroom on Friday May, 25th.

Queen City Cartel and B.A.D.ass DJs present FIASCO at Bayou on Chippewa. Good luck if you can see them though, the DJ booth is so out of reach now (at last visit) which is good for dumb ass bitches making requests, but it seems it would be difficult for the DJs to “feel out” the crowd and atmosphere. Team White Girl Drunk is a tremendous name for a DJ tandem. But good luck copping that Twitter handle, it belongs to Sister Mary Sherman and Sister Anne Queef of the St. Augustine Convent of the Blessed Bloody Cross in Gary, Indiana.

The X Tour featuring EXCISION

TOWN BALROOM

681 main st. Buffalo, NY

Featuring: EXCISION, LIQUID STRANGER, LUCKY DATE, and STUNTMAN

The poster looks like its for some Snowboarder event sponsored by Monster Energy Drinks. It just screams of youngsters caught up in the grungy glitchy loud sound they think is called Dubstep. But alas, its so tempting. All creeping aside its interesting to see what some of the girls wear at these things! Ah, who am I kidding? I’m a young neon at heart. And I will go, for a bit, in the beginning. The tour features the PK sound system, boasting 100,000 watts! Last time this system was in the Ballroom, I could feel the ground vibrating walking down Main st. The reverberation was quaking the foundation of the Police station. The richness of the sound is uncanny. ‘Tis a shame all that distortion will be in full effect. Dubstep has been gone through the wood-chipper, and the kiddos love it. Good for them. Don’t hold back, Stuntman.

Stay hungry Buffalo. Now is no time to be stagnant. Work hard and work well, and you will enjoy playing so much more. The arts are flourishing, and the old guard is on the way out. Much Love.
