Tonight: Cheap Girls, The Sidekicks, Failures' Union, Aircraft

I'm going to go out on a limb and say that today is kind of Spring-ish, but it's the kind of Spring day that's punctuated with a ton of Buffalo question marks. What was with winter? Is there actually some decent weather in store? Or is it going to be snowing in June? Either way, if you're in the mood for some sunny music, with bit of Rust-Belt-worthy grunge, hit up Mohawk Place tonight (47 E. Mohawk, 7pm, $8). Michigan's Cheap Girls will be rolling into town and rolling out their catchy-as-F rock. They've been compared to Superchunk and Superdrag, so if you're into super-90s grunge pop, you're sure to be super-pleased. The show also features the punk-infused, beach (on Lake Erie) music of Cleveland's The Sidekicks, and Buffalo favorites Failures' Union (who put out a split with Cheap Girls a few years ago, and who I like because of their quality songwriting and because of their placement of punctuation, in that order). Rounding out the bill will be Aircraft, a relatively new local group with just a demo to their name. The demo is slick and spacey in a good way, but word on the street is you need to hear them live. So let's do that.
