When he’s not fronting indie rock group The Weakerthans, running the anarchist press he co-founded, or working on songs about Manitoba roads, John K. Samson writes some pretty catchy folk-rock tunes. The Winnipeg native is on tour after releasing his first full-length solo album released last November entitled, Provincial. While Samson’s songs are edgy and topical, they are also complex and carefully designed, and it’s surprising he hasn’t released more solo works since his 1995 cassette release, Slips and Tangles. Samson will be playing Mohawk Place tonight with the help of The Provincial Band and it’s sure to be an exciting performance. Show starts at 8 and tickets are $14.
