Tonight: Portugal. The Man

The Town Ballroom is in the midst a hot streak of great shows, making this one of the finest seasons yet for the downtown venue.  Tonight brings Portugal, The Man, a band born out of Alaska and still riding high from  the success of In the Mountain In the Cloud, their sixth studio album and their first since signing with Atlantic Records.  The album, produced by John Hill (the executive producer behind Santigold's debut album Santogold, another artist hitting The Town Ballroom stage May 16th), is the band's most accomplished effort to date, expanding the scope of their sound while still maintaining an intimate personability.  Be sure to show up early to catch BuffaBLOG Beach Party artist Nelson-Type, opening up the show with help from Bryan Johnson and Laurie Pitzonka on backing vocals.  Rounding out the bill is The Lonely Forest, an indie rock band based out of Anacortes, Washington, who have some catchy songs in their own right.  Portugal. The Man have an interesting lighting setup this tour, which is captured pretty well in the clip below.  It's so cool, it's worth sitting through Carson Daly's face to see it.

Doors are at 7
