Very few things in life give me as much satisfaction as music and skateboarding. These are and have always been my two greatest passions. And when you put those two things together, I'm just a believer. I believe in all things great in this world; creativity, freedom, life and love. These are the bigger themes; much moreso than surface appearance would dictate. Surface appearance would tell us the story of a plank of wood and some tunes. To me though, it's a world devoid of irony, sarcasm, phoniness and boredom. There is only what is in front of me.

I have discovered some of the greatest bands by accident watching skate videos and have been inspired by how a song takes shape and tells a story behind a board. Watch Guy Mariano's section in Lakai's Fully Flared. It's a beautiful semblance of hard work, determination and struggle. And if you know about Guy's struggles with drugs you're captivated all the more so. That he was able to re-capture the spirit and essence of skateboarding after years of hard living is affective and infectious.

Jim Greco's part in Misled Youth is another fantastic example. Pure attitude and style. I LOVE Black Flag and I loved Black Flag even more after that part. Aggression personified.

A great video part captures what the skater, the team and the vibe is all about. It gives a video flavor and that special something and in return skateboarding gives back to the song.

Sometimes hip-hop fits the soundtrack. Sometimes rock. Sometimes indie. Sometimes whatever. To this day I still pull inspiration from videos. From Sick Boys and Public Domain to Video Days and SecondHand Smoke to new bangers like Stay Gold and Baker 3 I'm always going to find inspiration. Check out a few of my faves below.
