I hadn't heard of the very awesomely-named Cool World until a couple weeks ago, but they've quickly become one of my most favoritest bands in recent memory. The shoegazey three-piece plays Noise, but sits comfortably on the listenable end of the genre. Mix up the reverbed-out instros of Index, the blissful drone of Exploding Plastic/Cale-era Velvets, the anti-treble guitar pop of an old Built To Spill bootleg, and you'd have a general idea of what to expect from the Providence, RI-based trio. And with a debut album called Gaydream Nation, you can't not compare Cool World to Sonic Youth in their heyday. They'll be performing as part of a multimedia show at The Vault tonight (702 Main St, 7PM, $donation), along with Bootleg Jenkins, ronaldraygun, and visuals by Mom Magazine. Be there or be a parallelogram.
