Tonight: MC Chris

MC Chris is coming to Mohawk Place tonight.  Which obviously means that you need to break out your Boba Fett or Stormtrooper costume from the closet.

You may know MC Chris without even realizing it, as he has done work with Willams Street Productions, the creators of Aqua Teen Hunger Force (he was MC Pee Pants... and wanted candy) and Sealab 2021... that is the category I fell under until recently.

MC Chris makes "MC Chris music", which falls under the realm of Nerdcore.  Nerdcore, for the uninitiated, is a sub-genre of rap that draws its material from comic books, video games, Star Wars, and things of that nature.

Those examples, however, are only the tip of the iceberg.  The material Nerdcore rappers rap about is as varied as the MC's themselves.

A unifying aspect of Nerdcore is that everyone has the same idea in promoting self confidence and self expression.  Mc Chris is no different, the following is taken directly from his website: "My mission is to let every person that is lacking in self confidence know that they are awesome and worthy of acceptance and love. I am here to remind everyone to be themselves and to love themselves while they do it. There is only one you and it’s your job to be that person in the most awesome way you possibly can. So go live your life and love what you like and don’t give a fuck what anybody thinks!"

It has been a nerdcore heavy week for Western New York, as Adam WarRock and MC Lars descended on Water Street Music Hall in Rochester last Sunday.  Stay tuned as I will be posting a multi-part series on Nerdcore in general, as well as, reviews to the shows I have been to in the following weeks.

Doors are at 7:00PM and tickets are $15
I will mo def be there so stop over and say hey.
