Since retiring the extravagant Age of Adz performance last year, Sufjan Stevens has stayed extremely busy in the meantime, as he tends to do. He contributed to the collaborative effort Beak And Claw with Son Lux and Serengeti back in March under the name s / s / s, toured with The National's Bryce Dessner and composer Nico Muhly this past year playing original songs inspired by the solar system, and just recently offered his music to choreographer Justin Peck for the ballet, inspired by Sufjan's 2002 album of the same name, "Year of the Rabbit", which features dancers from the New York City Ballet. As if that's already not enough, Sufjan created a Tumblr page a few weeks ago, which he has updated daily with zany, psychedelic GIFs and homemade video which seem to hint at a coming Christmas album.
Today we got our answer.
The Brooklyn indie-cult musician will be releasing his follow-up to the 2006 holiday box set with Silver and Gold: Songs for Christmas, Volumes 6-10, a 5 EP box set that will be available on MP3, CD, and limited edition Vinyl on November 13 via Asthmatic Kitty. The vinyl set will include stickers, non-toxic temporary tattoos, and a 40 page songbook and liner notes, including an essay on the Christmas Tree by Sufjan himself, and plenty more. And I mean plenty more. Pre-order it over at Sufjan's Bandcamp site.
So about that track. You can listen to and download the epic 12-minute song "Christmas Unicorn" (yup), akin to Adz's 25-minute track "Impossible Soul" below. Also, watch a stop-motion video made with legos for "I am Santa's Helper", put together by Sufjan in Hong Kong back in 2007.
