You can call it cirque folk, cabaret blues, or melange punk, but it's still pretty difficult to pigeonhole He's My Brother, She's My Sister. Either way, this particular five-piece from LA could pass as a troupe of modern-day gypsies. Instead of traveling by wagon, these musicians travel by van, but it doesn't stop them from playing the music to match. Extended metaphors aside, He's My Brother, She's My Sister write songs that are reminiscent of rowdy nights around a campfire. LA Weekly compared their male/female vocals to "glamour in the desert" and serve up "party music for coyotes drunk on champagne." That sounds very fun.
They're playing tonight at Mohawk Place at 8:00pm. In true gypsy nature, the fine details of the show are shrouded in mystery - but doesn't that just add to the spontaneity?
