Tonight: Mother Mother w/Awolnation

Fresh off their latest civilization-destabilizing album The Sticks, Vancouver five-piece Mother Mother arrive tonight to topple cities of the mind with their gleefully anarchic, quirkily irresistible indie-pop. Rewiring the English language to suit their iconoclastic vision, Mother Mother put love, science, religion, culture, and consumerism through a supersonic blender that recalls the warped wit of the Talking Heads and the dark playfulness of Eels, Andrew Bird, and early Beck. Eviller and punkier than Arcade Fire, Mother Mother is big-sound Canadian indie at its snarkiest and strangest.

Mother Mother will be followed by genre-mashing alternative rockers Awolnation. Fronted by the animated Aaron Bruno, the band has continued to gain fame through their freak-fuzz hits "Sail," "Not Your Fault," and "Kill Your Heroes." They have been bafflingly described by fans as "Nine Inch Nails meets Aretha Franklin." Mother Mother and Awolnation will also be joined by L.A.'s Metric-esque Blondfire. The madness begins at 7:30 pm tonight at Rapids Theatre in Niagara Falls. Tickets are $25.
