"When it's time to party we will party hard."
And with those immortal words, one man ushered in a wave of party, the likes of which had never been seen before nor since. It was the early 2000's. Nu-metal and hip hop dominated the airwaves. Mainstream culture had not yet embraced the bubbling garage platform of the Strokes or White Stripes. Bleak times for lovers of fun.
He appeared suddenly, out of nowhere. Adorning a white shirt, white pants and a spine full of kinetic energy, Andrew W.K. was something. Something you couldn't really put your finger on. Was he serious? "This is kind of stupid but it's really fun," we told ourselves. "I feel like dancing" seemed the collective response. A lot of people laughed. Most actually. And the jokes were of the at-him, not with-him variety.
Jokes on us. Here we are in 2013, and we are still embracing the party philosophy. The reasons aren't really important. Nostalgia, pure joy or the embrace of gimmick, everyone has their own motivation. All that matters is we are there.
By there, I mean the Waiting Room. Tonight. At 7. $20. I can't speak for the rest of the audience, but I am going to have an insanely fun time. Because I believe in the party. And the reasons don't really matter. Get there early to see Red Letter Statement and Natural Ingredients.
Check out what happens when Andrew W.K. is in a police lineup...
