Listener's Digest: The Pastels - “Illuminum Song”

16 years since their last album, The Pastels will return later this month with Slow Summits. The Scottish act released "Illuminum Song," the B-side to the album's first single, this morning, and its easy to hear how the long time indie-pop group influenced some of today's current acts. The song sounds like it would fit nicely into Arts & Crafts Records' catalog of female fronted bands like Land of Talk or even the Amy Millan/Emily Haines led Broken Social Scene tunes. The laid back vocals, delicate percussion, and just a touch of horns make the song perfect for one of those lazy, Sunday summer mornings. Slow Summits will be released on May 28th.
