A few years back, Broken Social Scene began releasing solo albums from key band members under the running title of Broken Social Scene Presents:... Both co-founders Kevin Drew and Brendan Canning released records, with Drew's being the stronger of the two, but nothing else followed from the series. Canning, whose "Stars and Sons" still remains one of BSS's best songs, is following up his solo debut, BSS Presents: Something For All of Us, this October with the unfortunately titled You Gots 2 Chill. Yep.
Being the nice guy he is, Canning is offering the album's first single, "Plugged In," as a free download on his personal website. Compared to Something For All of Us' killer single "Churches Under the Stairs," "Plugged In" is a bit of a let down, ditching big guitars for a Beatles-esque tune of autumnal finger plucking and hushed vocals, sounding unlike anything BSS has released. Given the lack of the BSS Presents in the title, maybe this song is Canning's way of breaking free from the moniker. You Gots 2 Chill (yes that's still the title) will be released on October 1st.
