Buffalo's Hot Tip Releases First Demos

Hot Tip, a band that we’ve been hearing a lot of buzz about, finally released their much-anticipated demos to the internet yesterday and it did not disappoint. Consisting of a conglomerate of three punk-regulars on the West Side (Mapmaker, Cross Stitch, and Pang), Hot Tip is exactly what you would expect from that scene, an enjoyable yet slightly raucous post-punkier version of Screaming Females. The demo was recorded by the mind(s) behind Feral Kids Records in the basement of DIY spot, The Glitterbox, but could easily pass for the basement of The Jungle Gym. Check it out below.

  1. there's actually going to be four more songs on the demo. this was just a sneak peek. stay tuned.

  2. i really dug the demos

  3. the Hot Tip demo is not released yet. i recorded and produced it (and am NOT one of the minds behind Drug Party), and these two songs were posted merely as a teaser and way of showing the promoters of the bands upcoming out of town gigs what they had in store for them. in my opinion a review should not be written about something until a tangible copy exists OR a digital press release is sent to someone to write an actual review about it. Hot Tip is a great band and one of the top bands in the city of Buffalo that i am currently excited about, and i think they deserve a more in-depth look once the demo is actually released. Again, this is NOT the final mix of the songs that are going to be on the demo.

The debut cassette release by Hot Tip is scheduled for 2/28 and will be available on Drug Party and the brand new BITCH FACE RECORDS! check it out when it exists and write a real review of it then!

  4. what's up with this recent trend of prematurely releasing music, buffablog?
    *tsk tsk*

  5. Eric,

Sorry for the misinformation. We updated it in the post. We did not mean for this to be interpreted a review, this is more of an introduction to the online world. Once something is openly shared on bandcamp or soundcloud and we as content creators for a local based endorse it, then we are happy to share it with people who read the blog. We most likely would like to review the Hot Tip full length and write more than six sentences, but we wouldn't do that until it was actually a full length shared on the internet or we saw a release show.

To be honest, less than our 20% (and that's being generous) of our posts are made up from bands e-mailing us. If we waited for a digital press release to be sent out by every band we cover, we would have maybe three local posts a week.

So with that, we assume whenever something is publicly shared on bandcamp, then the publisher is trying to share it with the public, and as a blog that focuses on local music we like to share things we get excited about when we see it. In the future, we can wait for your explicit e-mail to cover any show, recording, or project that we know you are involved in order to avoid prematurely writing about anything.

And to the person *tsk tsk*ing me, if a band didn't want their album to publicly be heard then they wouldn't have shared it to the public. That's kind of how the internet works.

  6. What's up with people using *tsk *tsk

  7. ALSO, it is very easy to make your music PRIVATE or just send it to the people you want to see it before it's ready. Its actually quite simple to clarify its unreadiness before you unleash it to the internet. User error, not Buffaerror.

There might be some hot tips in there for buffablog columnists.

  9. http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=jaded

Theres a nice definition of some commenters on Buffablog.

  10. i applaud buffablog's efforts of highlighting underground, local talent. if it weren't for them, where else would i get to hear a band called "hot tip"?

  11. I am sorry but since when is a music blog a PR page, if you post a song to the internet it can be posted regardless of what the band thinks.

  12. With all due respect to all involved, if something is posted publicly to the internet and we find it, I see no issues with us having every right to post about it. Not like any of us really ever write negative reviews of the stuff we post anyway. Don't publicly post and tag things if you don't want people to pick it up.

  13. Hey Mike,

First off I'd like to say thank you for taking the time to listen to and do a brief write up about the previewed songs. hot tip truly appreciates it and we in no way upset that you posted or wrote about the songs!

I think what Biff is trying to say (and I agree) is that the way it was written/the wording makes it seem like we've already released the demo / some of the information written was slightly off. The songs we posted on our bandcamp, are obviously for people to listen to, but it was more for us to show people (namely the folks doing our out of town shows next week) a preview of what we sound like/give em' a little taste of the demo.

Once the demo is actually released I would be more then happy to send you a physical copy (if you want it of course, unless you're good with just digital) for review. Also, to avoid any future misinformation, please feel free to shoot me a message if you have any questions about hot tip, cross stitch or the glitterbox. I usually reply in a timely manner :]

  14. The blog gets sent plenty of music to write about, they just think most of it sucks.

  15. dang, people is too sensitive!!
