Tonight: 101010, Returners, A Relative Term


Tonight in fantastic bargains: 101010, Returners and A Relative Term will be playing at Nietzsche's for five dollars at the door. If you aren't familiar with the bands, I suppose they could all safely be categorized as indie rock, but there's much more going on. Returners bring the rock, A Relative Term tend more toward the epic and the atmospheric, and 101010 might fall in between, with hooky, melodic songs with lush, textured instrumentation. 

The show starts at 10 pm. Five dollars at the door, 21 and up. Facebook event is here for more info.

Tonight: Like a Panther w/101010 and New Township


Grant Street's newest venue, The Gypsy Parlor (376 Grant St.) is set to host four bands tonight in an up-and-comers showcase. Like a Panther might ring a bell from their number one ranking on Cory Perla's (Artvoice) top local albums of 2011, or their glowing review from Buffalo News' Jeff Miers, but regardless of hype, this quartet is someone to watch out for in 2014. With one full-length album under their belt and an upcoming release in the works, Like a Panther's sound is sincere and melodic, similar to that of Crystal Stilts or The Antlers. In additional to Like a Panther are two bands that recently blipped on our radar, 101010 and New Township. 101010 would appeal to epic indie rock fans and New Township for fans of folky Okkervil River. 

 Lastly on the bill is Warm Filaments, or as I refer to them, the band that no-showed my radio show on August 30, 2012. So if you like listening to radio DJs fumble over pre-planned content and wing it on the air while nervously awaiting a band's arrival that never happens, check them out. Doors are at 9pm and who knows if there is a cover.
