David Wax Museum's unique blend of Americana and Mexican folk music has won them tons of praise over the last year. Core members David Wax and Suz Slezak hail from Missouri and Virginia, respectively, but they draw musical inspiration from all over the map. As a Harvard undergrad, Wax studied music in Mexico, where he came up with the idea for the band. Wax and Slezak met back in Boston, and the musical wonder that is "The Museum" was born.

If you haven't heard them yet, tonight's your chance - they'll be at the Ninth Ward starting at 8:00pm.  Tickets are $10 at the door.

The critics can't get enough of the David Wax Museum. Named 2010's "Americana Artist of the Year" by the Boston Music Awards, the group, featuring multi-instrumentalists Suz Slezak and David Wax, has been on fire as of recent with praise from NPR and Time magazine of all places. Despite the Americana categorization, the Museum are really a hodgepodge of all things great about folk music. They blend traditional American folk roots with Mexican son music using instruments such as the quijada and jarana to develop a full, beautiful sound. If you have no idea what those instruments are or what son music is, your not alone. All you need to know is that it sounds great and you should go see them.
