Tonight is a big night across America for bar hopping, binge drinking and awkward run ins, or as Buffalonians like to call it: Wednesday. If live music tickles your fancy (and why the hell are you reading this if it doesn't), then Ninth Ward at Babeville is one of your best bets. Vancouver based pop quintet Said The Whale will be headlining the intimate basement venue with a smattering of solid local support. Named by Rockstar Weekly as one of the "Top 12 Rockstars to Watch in 2012", along with Van Halen, The Rolling Stones, and Rush (I think this may be Van Halen's year!), the band has been tirelessly touring in support of their most recent album, Little Mountain. Be sure to get there by 8 to catch monstrous math rock duo All of them Witches, who have promised a "freak out" set not to be missed. Also on the bill are four piece indie up and comers Searching for Dinosaurs and funk inspired alternative rock trio Fourwalls. If you're looking for live music tonight, this is the most bang for your buck. Show your family what a true hangover is.

Brooklyn based trio Fang Island describe their music as "everyone high fiving everyone". It's an apt comparison, as their new album Major swells with the ebullience of an early Weezer album on Prozac. They're bringing their catchy riff-a-thon to The Tralf tonight with chip tune artists Anamanaguchi, a four piece whose name is the reason copy and paste was invented. It's nice to see The Tralf booking younger bands, as it's one of the nicest sounding venues in town and deserves more attention. Be sure to show up early to catch local up and comers Fourwalls, relative newcomers to the Buffalo scene with a pretty accomplished blues sound. Doors are at 7:30, show at 8:30.  Tickets are still available, so buy them. I just noticed there are four hands in the picture above, creepy.

The outer harbor is hosting Edgefest number whatever today, succinctly marginalizing the most promising new venue in the Buffalo area. While I think it's noble that the powers that be enabled the land to be put to the valuable use of convincing 103.3 The Edge they're still a thing, across town there are people working hard to actually support the city's growing music scene.  Today is the final day of the Tralf's three day long Betterdays Independent Music Festival. If you've coughed up the $10 to get in Friday or Saturday night, that means your ticket is still good for tonight. Why would you deny yourself the opportunity to catch some more of the city's best bands on one stage?
