Disco Infiltrator: December 13th


Star Slinger - "I/IV"
Known for his pitch-shifted, bouncing remixes, UK producer Star Slinger's latest effort is an edit of Anita Baker's "Sweet Love" and the first of four reworks leading up to his New Year's Eve appearance at Chicago's Beauty Bar. "I/IV" adds a funky bass groove and soulful piano and synth lines to the track's infectious vocal hook. The result is a smooth, blissful transformation of the more mellow original. Disclosure - "January (Kaytranada Edition)"
British production duo Disclosure have enjoyed tremendous success following the release of their incredible debut album, Settle, and now will release a collection of remixes from the record with names like Baauer, Paul Woolford, Hudson Mohawke, and DJ Premier included on the compilation. Quickly rising Montreal producer Kaytranada, puts his R&B flavored house stylings on "January," one of the album's most memorable tracks with vocals from Jamie Woon.

HNNY - "No"
One of the most stunning tracks to come out this year comes courtesy of Swedish producer HNNY, as he samples TLC's "No Scrubs" on his latest track "No." Setting up a deep, melodic intro before building to an R&B vocal breakdown, the cut has a strong 90's vibe and an overall warm feel. The track will be released as a single-sided 12" December 16th via vinyl only label Puss.

Katy B - "I Like You"
UK pop singer Katy B is expected to release her new EP, 5 AM, November 4th and has already shared the title track. "I Like You," the latest single from the record, was produced by George FitzGerald, known for his 90's house inspired work and features a straightforward, driving garage flavored beat. With dark synth sounds coupled with a confident delivery, the hook-heavy track has undeniably British club feel that is bound to tear up dancefloors.



 Mount Kimbie - "Made To Stray" (DJ Koze Remix)

The excellent new album from Mount Kimbie, Cold Spring Fault Less Youth, has brought on a slew of remixes from names like Kyle Hall, Lee Gamble, and now Berlin's DJ Koze joins that list with a stunning reinterpretation of "Made To Stray." Like much of his 2013 LP, Amygdala, the track balances strange, almost psychedelic elements with precise rhythms that border on hypnotic. Stretching to over eight minutes, the blissful remix is as sonically adventurous as we've come to expect from the producer while retaining the warmth that make even his zaniest tracks a rewarding listen. 

 
Disclosure - "Apollo"
One of the biggest stories in dance music this year has been the breakthrough of young British duo Disclosure, whose debut LP, Settle, is a contender for album of the year. Combining elements of garage, house, and bass music coupled with crisp production, the pair make tracks that pack an energy that the genre hasn't seen for some time. While some Settle was more pop leaning, the pair get back to their roots on their latest track "Apollo." With soaring vocals, huge synth sounds, and driving bass, the massive track is yet another hit for the Lawrence brothers to add to their impressive resume.



Common - "I Want You" (Kaytranada Edition)
Montreal producer Kaytranada has been quickly rising with tracks like "At All" and remixes of Azealia Banks and Missy Elliot. His latest rework of rapper Common's "I Want You," is a bouncing, soulful take on the original with just the right amount of dancefloor flair. With a thick bass line and grooving percussion, hip hop and house elements are brought together perfectly to make for an absolutely infectious track.
    
Mix of the Week: Little Dragon 
Swedish dance pop band Little Dragon recently put together this mix full of current house sounds from South Africa that are said to be the inspiration for their new album expected out this spring. Blending 90's house and tribal flavored jams, it's an impressive and energetic display of sounds from a region known for it's rich tradition of dance music.

Kaytranada- "At All" 

Montreal producer Kaytranada is known for blending elements of funk, house, and r&b and has worked with singer Krystale and recently toured with fellow Canadian artist Ryan Hemsworth. His latest single, "At All," is a bouncing slice of house featuring chopped, pitch shifted vocals and a funky chord progression. Check out the artist's bandcamp page for more similar sounds and look for his next LP out soon on Jakarta records. 


Cream Dream- "No No"

Long Island native Cream Dream has released music for several labels including Forma T., Mad Tech, and Mishka. Now, the 20-year-old producer is set to release a new EP titled Okay for French label Maison Nue, who have shared a new track "No No," which did not make it on to the record. The classic-sounding, UK garage influenced track features soulful vocals and warm synth textures. Listen and download the track below, and look for Okay out September 16. 



Oneohtrix Point Never- "Zebra"

Perhaps not the most dance floor appropriate track, but brilliant nonetheless, experimental producer Daniel Lopatin recently released this otherworldly sounding cut from his upcoming album R Plus Seven, out October 1 via Warp. Offsetting glitchy and warped sounds with an interlude of ambient textures and strikingly beautiful sounds, Lopatin takes listener's on a remarkable sonic journey that ends pleasantly despite its' abrasive beginning.



Machinedrum- "Gunshotta"

Producer Travis Stewart aka Machinedrum is known for his unique genre blending style that includes elements of R&B, Bass music, Jungle with dark melodic vibes. His forthcoming LP Vapor City, has already delivered the incredible single "Eyesdontlie" and its' imaginative video and now we have the heavy, relentless "Gunshotta." The murky track is reminiscent of UK producer Burial and according to a press release via label Ninja Tune is the theme for the street in the imaginary city the album is named for.
