The next few weeks are filled with pre-summer tour albums, and with record store day right around the corner, the amount and quality of albums being released today have not been seen in quite some time. Here’s a few of the top new releases.
TV On the Radio: “Nine Types of Light” – The wildly eclectic TV on the Radio’s highly anticipated new album, “nine Types of Light”, releases today, and after their last studio album, Dear Science, the band has continued to push musical boundaries. Transcending all musical genres, the album is as experimental and wacky as it is catchy, and times, soft and beautiful. This one is not to be missed.
Atmosphere: “The Family Sign” – Rhymesayers Records’ founders Atmosphere are back with their follow-up to 2008’s When Life Gives You Lemons, You Paint That Shit Gold. The Family Sign is an incredibly personal venture for Slug & Ant, and though a bit more morose (based on the murder-suicide of Slug’s parents) than the 2008 head-bopper, the new LP is definitely worth checking out.
Holy Ghost!: “Holy Ghost!” – For those who didn’t get the online versions available, or leaks, the new Holy Ghost! album officially comes out today. There has been a lot of hype behind the NYC electropop duo’s new album, and its break laced, hard-bassed rhythms live up to that hype. The grooves are at times addictive, and it seems this one might have some replay value. Add this to your iPod as soon as you can.
Between The Buried And Me: “The Parallax: Hypersleep Dialogues” – The first of two concept EP’s from the Raleigh prog-metal monster, BTBAM have produced a conceptual piece akin to acts such as Opeth or Mastadon; mixing beautiful orchestral piano, bass heavy breakdowns, and bare-knuckles American Black Metal. For fans of heavy music, this is must hear.
Foo Fighters: “Wasting Light” – After touring with Them Crooked Vultures, Grohl has finally put the finishing touches on the new Foo Fighters album, Wasting Light. Dave brought former Nirvana, and Eyes Ardrift (among others) Krist Novoselic into the fold for the latest album, and it has paid off. Grohl has almost distracted the public with all of his other projects, and, ironically, this new Foo’s record may be some of his best work.
Low: “C’Mon” – Minnesota minimalist rockers Low release their first studio album in four years today. Recorded in an old church, the echoes and acoustics on this album are fantastic. The band has been hard at work despite the time between LP’s, and fans should make a point to pick this one up.
Gypsy Blood: “Cold in the Guestway” – The debut from Chicago based post-indie group Gypsy Blood comes out today. It blends influence from bands like Godspeed You Black Emperor , with bits of surfer rock influence, and a fuzzy stoner rock sensibility. It’s at least worth a few spins.
Paul Simon: “So Beautiful or So” – Paul Simon will never stop producing good music. You have to check this out.
The Head and The Heart: “The Head and The Heart” – The Sub Pop debut from Seattle six-piece The Head and The Heart drops today and is definitely amongst the top of today’s new releases. The folk-inspired sextet create a lot of beautiful vocal harmonies, and have and incredibly full, yet soft, storytelling style, and should definitely be added to springtime walking playlists.

Great stuff man! There's so much awesome new music, great shout-outs to TV On The Radio, Foo Fighters, Low, & The Head And The Heart (playing on WBNY now, well Foo Fighters is going in this week)
Gotta give some love to the new Tron Legacy Reconfigured, Bell X1, Awol Nation, Younger Brother, UNKLE, Maritime, The One AM Radio, O'Death CDs and I can't wait for the new Manchester Orchestra & Death Cab For Cutie ones on the way ^_^
Keep up the awesome work guys!
(on a side note, I think I'll add a little review.
The new Gorillaz CD (The Fall) is pretty.. interesting. I like how they play that it's mainly 2D's cd as I could see him making this. Experimental at points, but mostly melancholy over obscure beats. Worth checking out, but definitely for the less-poppy fans)

The Gorillaz album was recoding completely on an iPad too. Interesting fact!
