Three days ago, I was enjoying an amazing weekend of music in Hunter, NY at Mountain Jam. One of the my favorite things about music festivals is discovering bands that for some reason haven't been on my radar of new music yet. I stumbled into the lodge to see what band was playing and to my delight I discovered The Heavy Pets. An American rock-funk jam band from Fort Lauderdale, The Heavy Pets have been making music since 2005. They have played several big festivals like Bonnaroo and Langerado in the past and very recently killed it at Mountain Jam. All five members of the band are extremely talented musicians and you can tell these guys are meant to play together. Its an impressive combination of clever song writing and skilled jamming, this is a show not to be missed. One of our favorite local bands, Aqueous, is opening for them. The show originally was supposed to take place at the Tralf, but for some reason it has been moved to Sportsmens Tavern. No complaints though, Sportmens has recently done some renovations that make seeing music there even better and they decreased the ticket price! The show starts at 8 pm tonight and its $10.
