On the website for Rochester's The Bug Jar, the calendar entry for November 21st tells of a show featuring Thee Oh Sees, Total Control, & Paul Cary and The Small Scaries. The calendar entry for the day right before reads, "CLOSED FOR FLOOR REPLACEMENT." This can't be a coincidence.
The last time Thee Oh Sees played at The Bug Jar, their kraut-flavored garage surf assault left the capacity audience catching their breath and pleading for more. This time it's expected that things will be even wilder (as evidenced by the recent renovations). Thee Oh Sees are out supporting their latest effort, the pulsing, raucous Dungeons and Dragons concept album (naturally), Carrion Crawler/The Dream. They've also added a new member, Lars Finberg, who has taken some time off from his own project, The Intelligence, to step behind the kit as a second drummer. So, anyone who likes surf rock supergroups, but wished they sounded a bit more like the Allman Brothers Band, your prayers have been answered.
But wait, that's not all. Opening the show will be Chicago's Paul Cary and The Small Scaries, as well as Total Control, the Australian post-punk outfit that includes members of the UV Race and Eddy Current Suppression Ring. Total Control are on U.S. soil promoting their recently released debut LP, Henge Beat, which will undoubtedly be included in many people's "best of 2011" lists.
Shows this awesome sometimes end up being somewhat overly hyped, so let's go with "Show of the half-century!" just to be safe. Doors at 8pm. Get there early!
