The Drum Machine Report

Just as the crowd’s anxiety was peaking and all of the hippies were on the brink of trampling each other, Bobby or Phil would always tell the crowd calmly to “take a step back.” All of the nervous energy would dissipate from everyone’s happy trip and all of the good show vibes would be restored. The scene of a Dead show, some considered to be utopian. Well shit, nothing’s perfect, not in this world. Not today either.
Electronic artists are a part of the commercial mainstream. That’s the truth. The “scene” is not what it used to be. It’s not underground. It’s not hip. Why do you think we continue to try and throw it back; have parties like the old days? Because there is an attachment to that original feeling. Like the first time you heard that song, that time you went backstage, or the time you peaked on the dancefloor.

Deadmau5 was not thinking Grammy when he was a candy kid from Niagara Falls. And I doubt Skrillex was thinking he’d be nominated when he started making music on his MacBook. Well congratulations the two of them. They are at the crest of the wave where Electronic and Dance music is being pulled into the commercial mainstream. This movement is clearly apparent when listening to many new Hip-Hop and Pop songs. Does it mean this music is dead? Absolutely not. Electronic and Dance music is the reinvention of previous material.

Take a step back. Instead of freaking out about hearing Brostep in television advertisements, or the Grammy nominations, or the fact that there’s a fucking party in the fucking suburbs this weekend. Yuck! Take a step back, relax, and take everything in stride. After all, the encouraging factor that the Dead would cite when telling people to back-off was that the music always sounds better from the back.

Aside from being ridiculously sexy Australian hotties (twins, mind you), the DJ duo of NERVO is actually pretty good, or at least the productions sound pretty decent. Either way I’m interested to see what kind of flavor they can bring to Buffalo. Now signed to Astralwerks/EMI they blew up with a couple hit singles, and put in the work opening for the “Femme Fatale” tour with Nicki Minaj and Brit Brit. Factory Nightlife is doing a promo where the first 500 cats 21+ who accept the Facebook invite will be added to a free guest list. Thereby getting in for FREE. Here’s the LINK. Also Buffalo’s own DJ/Producer D.STAR will be opening.

Back in the day this spot was Solid Grounds coffee shop, and now with the turnover of a few restaurants it’s called Epic, on the corner of Bryant and Elmwood. Haven’t tried the food, but kind of a stupid name for a restaurant. Regardless, on Saturday night JESSIE AARON and 3PO are turning into a nightlife spot with music, featuring this week the music of local Producer/DJ JARVIS and his release of Moonraker EP, which is currently available now on beatport HERE.
