Artist Spotlight: Sleeping Bag

I like lists. I don’t like making lists because it stresses me out, but I like reading them. The reason I bring this up is because I found a band that I adore on one of these lists. I don’t remember what brought me to Houston Press’s post titled the “The Ten Best Songs of 2011 You Didn’t Hear,” but since then I’ve been obsessively listening to Bloomington, Indiana’s Sleeping Bag. The band’s straight simplicity encapsulates the mid 90’s indie rock scene (think Pavement or Polaris). At almost two years old, the trio has wrapped up a national tour this past August and word on the street (Facebook) is they are working on a new album. Lead singer/drummer Dave Segedy’s gentle and effortless, almost indifferent vocals along with super clean guitar and David Woodruff’s grungy bass make this band incredibly tight. Check out their single “Slime.” It’s a good one.

  1. Great band. Glad you mentioned Polaris too. I obsessively listened to the soundtrack they did for Pete and Pete back in the day, and just recently re-discovered it. Front to back just so good.

  2. Hey Sandy!
