So I just finished reading an article detailing how Friskies (yes, the cat food manufacturers) debuted an inter-species iPad game at SXSW which pits you against your feline friend (foe?). Furthermore, "Buddy", the official spokescat at SXSW has, as of this writing, gone undefeated.
This got me thinking: what if Buddy had entrance music à la mode de professional wrestling/UFC/boxing? Naturally, I combined a decidedly feline approach with energetic/rockin'/heavy songs and came up with my choices for entrance music that would get Buddy pumped up before the fur flies.
Be sure to submit your picks for frenzied feline jams down below in the comments section!
Honorable Mentions:
Bob Marley - "Iron Lion Zion"
Henry Mancini - "The Pink Panther Theme"
Pink Floyd - "Lucifer Sam" (about Syd Barrett's cat)
5) Ted Nugent - "Cat Scratch Fever" (1977)
I mean, I don't know how this wouldn't be the first song that comes to everyone's mind. Terrible Ted would make great entrance music and I'm sure the undefeated Buddy is making all the pussies purr down in Austin right now.
4) Funkadelic - "I Call My Baby Pussycat" (1972)
Ahh, George Clinton. This Funkadelic jam is a slowed down/groovier/spacier version of the same song he recorded with Parliament two years earlier (and goodness me, making thinly veiled allusions to sex five years before Ted Nugent, how scandalous!).

3) Pantera - "The Underground In America" (1996)
Pan-ther-a [pan-ther-uh]
noun
1. A genus of chiefly large cats that includes the snow leopard, tiger, leopard, jaguar, and lion, most having the ability to roar.
2. The kings of metal.
I bet Buddy had posters of all those big cats (and band) on his wall growing up as a kitten.

2) The Aristocats - "Everybody Wants To Be A Cat" (1970)
Well, maybe not the whole song, more like the last minute of the song. That way you have the hard-driving, house-destroying refrain while saving yourself from the terrible singing of the kittens (rinky-tinky-tinky?) and atrocious Asian stereotypes.
1) Primus - "Tommy The Cat" (1991)
Les Claypool's description of "Tommy The Cat" is how I imagine Buddy views himself after he pounces on the competition:
"Many a fat alley rat had met its demise while staring point blank down the cavernous barrel of this awesome prowling machine. Truly a wonder of nature, this urban predator"
Also of note, the song is written about Thomas O'Malley, the alley cat from The Aristocats and is voiced by Tom Waits in the song.

"Buddy the cat is my name and I say unto thee, say baby do you wanna lay down with me? Say baby do you want to lay down by my side? Say baby, say baby?"

That's some damn fine journalism.
