Local Artist Spotlight: Victory for Poland

On June 2nd, Town Ballroom (681 Main St) will feature a Battle of the Bands presented by Zee’s Property Services. After checking out the numerous battling bands competing, I stumbled upon Victory for Poland. This Amherst based indie-pop act was formed in 2010 by Tylor Colby and Cian Harrigan and has steadily grown in both members and sound in the past two years. Although this sextet seems to be barely out of high school (or still in?), their influences are notably mature (Neutral Milk Hotel, Modest Mouse). I would confidently describe them as a healthy mix of Los Campesinos!, Vampire Weekend, and Ra Ra Riot.  I was surprised this band of multiple multi-instrumentalists have not been more talked about, but maybe that’s because I am probably ten years older than their oldest member.  Victory for Poland is both talented and unique to the Buffalo scene and here’s your chance to check them out.

  1. nice find mike!

  2. the shortness of the song is very punk, yet the vocals is Strokes-like, with a good blending of instruments and layered sounds. a mature sound from a young band- very rare!

  3. sounds really good
