Things are going to get loco at The Mohawk Place this evening as Los Angeles based punk/hardcore mainstays The Bronx will be performing as their alter-ego Mariachi El Bronx. The band now have two full-length albums out under the Mariachi El Bronx moniker and critics everywhere have lauded them for the sincere, authentic music they have produced since learning to play traditional mariachi music (something they undertook in 2006 after four years of putting out punk/hardcore albums... which they still do in addition to mariachi music).
I am certainly excited to finally see this band after hearing so much about them. Any band that has the dedication to completely switch directions like this and learn a completely different style of music has to be given respect, and I fully plan on paying mine to them this evening.
Opening this evening is Two Gallants, a raspy, folk-rock duo from San Francisco that employs lo-fi approach with heartfelt lyrics on love and loss.
Dust off your charro suit and break out the tequila!
Doors are at 7PM and tickets are $20 at the door.
