If you follow this blog, even remotely, you've picked up on a few things: Praise for the new Daft Punk is unaninimous, Mac's on point with the Just Announceds, Scott is a fantastic writer, and this blog LOVES Young Suns. Like really loves them.

If you haven't heard Young Suns, let me give you a brief introduction. Russian Circles-esque with a touch more melody, not quite Pelican heavy, but certainly treading that slim, sludgy line. Groove for days; the convergent point where metal meets rock meets atmospheric instrumental soundscapes. It's a potent concoction and their mastery of tension-release songwriting cannot be overstated. This music is as thought out as a battle-plan and I mean that in the best way possible.

You can catch Young Suns tonight at Waiting Room with two other Buffalo bands, Scales and Backbiter. Scales are clearly influenced by Young Widows (ok in my book) and Backbiter have this cool hardcore punk/crust/sludge influence (also ok in my book). It's cheap and it's early (6$, 8pm). No better place to party tonight.

Fans of atonal noise and anything avant-garde will get a kick out of this one.  No, but seriously, the anti-harmonists in You You Dark Forest will be hitting the Turnaround with support from Buffalo's finest pop-scorning artists.  This includes sludge/crust band Backbiter and the ever brutal Young Suns.  Rounding out the lineup will be a set from The Patterns.

As I said last week, Sugar City has been quite active this summer. Tonight, they will be putting on an amazing show for only $7.00, which features New Jersey's Screaming Females and some great local bands.

Screaming Females are touring in support of their most recent album, recorded by Steve Albini. The band plays raucous and catchy rock and roll. Marissa Paternoster, the lead vocalist, is an amazing guitarist, so you should plan on them totally shredding (yes, I just used the word shredding, but they really do shred. I am sorry, it was the most accurate description).

 

Mallwalkers have been tearing it up for awhile now. Led by Handsome Dan, who you may remember DJed our most recent beach party, the 11 member punk group plays a cacophonous mix of punk and funk.



When they aren't loafing around local coffee shops, Backbiter plays ferocious, heavy, and fast hardcore. A new act, they are quickly proving themselves to be very exciting live. Bring earplugs if you feel you might need them because they do get loud.



Little is known of Gut Pole. No, seriously, I really could not find anything. But really, aren't we all gut poles? Think about it...

The doors are at 7, so come down early to catch some great music for a low price in what was once an old factory. Seriously, it would be hard to imagine a better way to spend your time. This will be an alcohol free show, but there will be some cool soda and homemade empanadas available.
