Buffalo's Alleys Continue Emo's New Wave
Aircraft's James Warren Gets Ambient With Animal Hospital
Aircraft has long been considered one of Buffalo's most prolific and talented acts... So we of course have to shine a light on bassist James Warren's side project, Animal Hospital. Warren mixes together drum machine beats and ethereal guitars to create something along the lines of Washed Out or Electric President sans vocals; think chillwave or experimental. I also couldn't help but notice that despite being named Animal Hospital, all of Warren's new songs titles reference insects ("Army Ants," "Drone Stuck," "Beetles")... Cryptic. Check them out below.
Cedar Kites Post Teaser From New EP
Cedar Kites has just released a new song from their upcoming EP, Framework, due out in 2014. Cedar Kites' crisp punk attack comes complete with a gravely vocalist and tinges of delay, cultivating a sound that falls somewhere on the punk spectrum between The Gaslight Anthem and local punk heroes Pentimento. Oh yeah, and there's also a cameo from The Traditional frontman Anthony Musior... These guys must all be one big happy family or something. Either way, the aforementioned song is called "Listener." Check Out Big Synth Hooks from Small Smalls
Recorded at Hi-Lo Studios, Small Smalls is Buffalo synth-pop that would fit comfortably on the Arts & Crafts Records roster (think Broken Social Scene, Stars, Ra Ra Riot, etc.). In fact, this female-fronted duo is quite reminiscent of the synth-y, love-fueled indie rock of Stars, with perhaps a slight tinge of Lemuria on the vocals. They recently posted a few songs to their Soundcloud - check out the single, "Brave Bird," below.

Anybody who's been a part of the Buffalo punk rock scene in the last few years should be familiar with Feral Kid Records. The label's been putting out strong releases by great local bands (Rochester included) and have, by and large, helped build the scene, all whilst maintaining the DIY ethic that has helped the community grow. Aaron and the Burrs (listen below) Able Danger, Plates, Brown Sugar, Mayday!, Human Touch, Rational Animals...the list goes on and on. Great bands. Fast music. Raw spirit.
You can now check out many of Feral Kid's finest releases, thanks to the new bandcamp format. It's extremely user friendly and makes access easier than you can imagine. Take a minute or 60 to check out the catalog HERE. And keep up with more releases by the finest punk rock and indie label Buffalo has to offer.

Listen To The New Single From Andrew Biggie
Okay bummer, the 2013 Infringement Festival may be over, but that doesn't mean we need to forget it ever happened. Andrew Biggie released an EP in support of his Infringement performances in all its punk, lo-fi glory (think early Bright Eyes, but punk instead of indie/emo). The songs contain snippets of ukeleles, overly distorted guitars, thrashing drums, and even samples from 20-year-old cassettes Biggie found at his grandmother's house. Actually, now that I think about it, more people should really consider including their grandmother in their musical endeavors. Either way, check out the first song from the EP, the thrashy "AH," below.
