Cut Copy - "Free Your Mind (Fort Romeau Remix)
Along with Arcade Fire's Reflektor, Cut Copy's upcoming album Free Your Mind has the promise to be one of the last great releases before the end of 2013. The genre-blending, sample-heavy title track is one of the most infectious dance tracks of the year, and now has been given a grooving, jam-like remix by rising UK producer Fort Romeau. Adding his warm, nocturnal house style, the track is stretched to eight minutes of blissfully elegant buildups and smooth transitions that adds yet another layer of dance music history onto the already masterful track.



Jerome LOL - "What Now"
Los Angeles producer and Body High co-founder, Jerome LOL, recently included this drum & bass influenced cut on the label's 2013 fall tour compilation, which also includes tracks from Samo Sound Boy, and Juan Atkins. With an ethereal melody set to a crowded percussion track, the track balances abrasive and ambient textures in a way similar to British artists Aphex Twin and Actress. After an impressive set opening for Baths earlier this week at the Tralf, the talented producer continues to prove himself as one of the most creative minds in the dance music community.



Maya Jane Coles - "No Stick"
Known for her deep, dancefloor igniting tracks, London house producer Maya Jane Coles recently released this hypnotic tune as a part of the "Burning Bright" remix single. Featuring a thick bassline, shuffling rhythm and grooving vocal samples, the track is yet another example of the producer's ability to consistently deliver infectious deep house vibes, giving us a modern take on a timeless sound.  

Art Of Tones - "The Great Sgatmi"

Stockholm-based label Local Talk records continues its output of quality, '90s-influenced house tracks with this cut from Parisian producer Art Of Tones. Built around an incredibly catchy groove and vocal sample from Flying Lotus' "Tea Leaf Dancers," the track comes across as effortlessly smooth with a bouncing rhythm and deep house vibe.



Bodhi - "Imperfection"

British production duo Bodhi's pop-influenced style of house is on full display in their newest track, "Imperfection." Complete with soaring vocal hooks and a thick bass line, the pair places several pauses in the beat to create tension in the grooving rhythm. The pair will release their Imperfection/No More EP on Future Classic on October 7th. Listen to the misleadingly-titled track below.



Ben Pearce - "What I Might Do (Karma Kid Remix)"

While Ben Pearce's original take of "What I Might Do" has understandably seen a meteoric rise in the UK, with support from Radio 1 DJ's Pete Tong and Annie Mac, this remix by fellow British producer Karma Kid brightens the original while maintaining its pop sensibility. Using colorful synths and crowded percussion to inject life into the track, Pearce's subtle vocal is brought to the forefront and used to carry this massive remix.



Fort Romeau - "Trust Me"

London producer Fort Romeau has already shared the title track from his upcoming Stay/True EP and now has given us this layered, funky house cut that features one of most infectious grooves heard this year. Building upon the faded, yearning vocal sample before leading into a bouncing breakdown, the vinyl-only track combines classic Chicago house vibes with tropical percussion in a way that's reminiscent of the deep house style of Spanish producers John Talabot and Pional.

As dance music has seen an incredible rise in profile recently, countless innovative producers have started earning recognition for their craft, blowing up seemingly overnight because of an infectious track or sound they've created. This column will take a look at some of the more interesting sounds happening within a genre that's been known to constantly push boundaries by seamlessly blending disparate styles and sounds.


London producer Fort Romeau is known for his atmospheric take on house that uses slow builds and deep grooves to make for a hypnotic sound with an obvious 80's influence. His latest track, "Stay True," is a deep cut with a bassline that evokes the noir disco sound of Chromatics. The gorgeously composed vocal sample provides an added element of depth and keeps things interesting over the seven minute track. The producer's Stay/True EP is out September 16 on Matthew Dear's Ghostly International Label.
