Cheap Time burns out of Nashville, snarling through head thrashing punk with a sharp glam edge. While the music contains an element of 80’s glam rock, their sound isn’t overly polished, and maintains the mud and grit of a garage act. They’ve toured with legends such as Social Distortion and Mudhoney, incurring both adulation and wrath from crowds just as punk music should. Aside from founder Jeffrey Novak, Cheap Time's line-up is ever changeable, which results in a continuous evolution of tone.

The thundering sounds of old-school punks and Mohawk Place veterans Wolf Tickets will accompany them at the Waiting Room tonight, joined by the get-up-freakout rock of The Telltale Signs, and the shimmering lo-fi Fictitious Ray. 

That's $10 at the Waiting Room around 7PM and it's all ages, so bring your kids.

Saturday night's the perfect night to have a few beers, kick back and get a little wild. And when you have Wolf Tickets, the Telltale Signs and the Barksdales all on one bill, that recipe for chaos and fun is a sure-fired guarantee. Clash-inspired punk rock meets 60's psychedelic rock meets good ol' fashioned, whiskey soaked speedy rock'n'roll. Three bands. Three sets of catchy tunes. You're going to be drinking anyway. Why not make everyones favorite shithole your destination?

April 2013 marks a new chapter in the Buffalo music scene and it's long and influential history. This is the month of the Waiting Room, Buffalo's newest venue, which opened with its first show on April 1st (Polar Bear Club). Many future shows are scheduled on the horizon and us locals are hopeful that this spot will reinvigorate the Buffalo scene and take it to new heights.

Tonight, we celebrate the Waiting Room's official grand opening party (even if it's not their first show) with some of Buffalo's best. You've got the Clash-worshipping Wolf Tickets, Lockport's answer to southern rock - Handsome Jack, the glossy indie-sheen of Voices, and Brit-pop influenced Made Violent, with  DJ Sets by Transmission. The show is absolutely free, drinks are cheap ($2 until 7pm) and Amy's food truck will be parked right outside. What more could you ask for? Great music, great food and it starts early enough (5pm) so you won't have to worry about an all nighter messing with your work plans.

The music scene is what you make it. This is a historic event. Be a part of it.

It's been 25 years and Fishbone are still doing it their own way, which is any way they can. Combining funk, punk, ska, soul, and attitude for days Fishbone was part of the early L.A. alternative movement along with groups like Janes Addiction and the Red Hot Chili Peppers. Their potent blend of energy, wil'out excitement, and frantic (yet thought-provoking) lyricism, courtesy of freak-out machine Angelo Moore, made them standouts and brought them a bit of success. They always remained underground heroes though, and that is the mark of a great band. One that straddles the line between legitimacy and mainstream appeal all while staying true to who you are.

Tonight, Fishbone lay's it all down at Nietszches along with Buffalo's own Wolf Tickets and B-side Basterds ($25, 9pm). More than likely they will have their new, critically-acclaimed documentary in tow, Everday Sunshine, which is gathering rave reviews, so pick it up if you have a chance. Now is the time to learn what Fishbone is all about. Live it, love it, feel it.

Last year Alix Rice, a Williamsville teenager, tragically lost her life in a hit and run accident. The community hasn't forgotten the incident and are now taking proactive measures to celebrate a life lost far too early. Tonight, New Era hosts a benefit show for Alix, with proceeds going towards the Alix Rice Peace Park Fund.

On the bill are some of the best Buffalo has to offer; Chosen Ones, Son of the Sun, Wolf Tickets, Red Delicious, Come Honor and Shout it Out. Tickets are $20 and include raffles in addition to great live performances. Town Ballroom is the place and 6:30 is the time. Come out, hear some good music and help commemorate Alix by contributing to a great cause.

The Thursday at the Harbor series is slowly drawing to a close and what a year it's been! From the epic Against Me! set to the Jesus and Mary Chain (with special Mad Men guests), 2012 has been a year to remember, and it's not even over yet!

Tonight, nineties faves and ska-core pioneers, the Mighty Mighty Bosstones, will be hitting up the harbor (5pm and FREE) with their high-charged fusion of punk, ska and hardcore. Though they've faded from the public's eye in recent years, they're still dishing out catchy and chant-worthy tunes, and it seems their audience has only grown. Opening the show are awesome local punk rockers Wolf Tickets and Ron Hawkins and the Do Good Assassins. This is sure to be one of the best harbor shows yet. At least thats the Impression that I get.
