Know Your Opener: The Mountain Goats

Art Park is killing it this summer. Between Cake, The Black Keys, and next week's Decemberist show, indie rock is has been well represented. Tonight, though, may be the best bang for you buck show of the summer at the Lewiston venue as Bright Eyes and The Mountain Goats play for FREE. Now normally I shy away from the caps when writing, but, and no offense to Thursday At The Square/Harbor, free shows like this rarely come around this area. Forming in Claremont, CA in 1991, The Mountain Goats are led by singer and songwriter John Darnielle, who is frequently named one of rock's best lyricists as his autobiographical lyrics are perfectly delivered by his emotion filled vocals. Just listen to the first single "Damn These Vampires" from their latest album, All Eternals Deck, and tell me Darnielle is not pissed off as he sings the chorus. The Mountain Goats will take the stage this evening at 6:30, and as always with Wednesday nights at Art Park, the show is free.
