Music & Film: The Films of the Buffalo Infringement Festival

For this month's Music & Film feature, we are going to turn our focus towards Buffalo's Infringement Festival.  The 10 day festival, which features 1200 performances over 50 venues, is a showcase for musicians, actors, poets, dancers, and many more throughout the Allentown and surrounding areas.  The festival also offers an impressive crop of films, including feature lengths, shorts, documentaries, and experimental pieces.
Being the music blog that we are, the first film that stood out to us for this year's festival is Everyday Sunshine!:  The Story of Fishbone.  Narrated by Lawrence Fishburne(why not?) the film depicts the relative rise and the struggles of the pioneering Los Angles based band, who combined punk, funk, and ska during the 80's and early 90's.  The film also touches on the cultural significance of the band in the African American community.  The two hour film, which was directed by Lev Anderson and Chris Metzler, will be shown twice during the festival:  Friday, July 29 at Halwells  at 1:00pm and Monday, August 1 at Squeaky Wheels at 7:00pm

Another interesting film of the festival is The Loft.....Riding Into The Sunset, a film chronicling the final performance of the great Buffalo venue will certainly bring a level of nostalgia for local music fans for those old enough, or had a good fake, to attend.  This film will be shown as part of the Outdoor Movie Night at 464 Gallery on Saturday, July 30th beginning at 8:30, and also at Sugar City's Documentary Film Showcase on Monday, August 1st beginning at 6:00pm.

One of the many comedies to be shown during the festival, Jangle's Corner, presented by IthankU Productions, follows four coke users who, after believing they purchased a good product, find out they have purchased heroin instead and are forced to sell the drugs.  Billed as a dramedy, this film may appeal to fans of Pineapple Express, but sounds a bit darker.  The only screening for this film is scheduled for Tuesday, August 2nd at Soundlab, beginning at 7:00pm.

Of course, I have barely scratched the surface of all of the films being shown over the next week and a half.  Between the various shorts, and experimental films also being screened, the film geek in all of us will certainly be kept busy.  Make sure you check out the entire lineup of films and schedule times before the overwhelmingly awesome festival begins.  Also, make sure to keep an eye out for our daily buffaBLOG Infringement Festival Guides throughout the entire festival.  Enjoy Infringement!
