Picking Up The Slack For MTV: LCD Soundsystem.....In Lego Form

Between all of the classic LCD Soundsystem singles, "All My Friends" is my hands down favorite. It was the first LCD song that really got me into the recently retired electronic dance act. Like many of the LCD's songs, once you strip away the beats, the songs become quite relatable in their themes.  For "All My Friends", the subject of aging and the effects that your youth had on your life hit me like no other LCD song has. In LCD leader and songwriter James Murphy's eyes, he has come to grips with getting older, if not somewhat reluctantly. While not as old as Murphy at the time he wrote the song, I am not quite there yet with accepting the fact that I will soon be seeing my younger days in the rear view mirror.  I don't like it one bit.  Oh well. Take out the deep meaning, and the song is still 7+ mins of indie dance rock joy.  A win win scenario.
The video to the song was always quite simple: the face painted Murphy sitting in a stoic and uninterested manner in front of the camera, looking like an aging hipster version of Bowie's Aladin Sane, as he occasionally looks off to the side in an almost defeated demeanor. As the song builds, the camera pans out to reveal the other members of the band doing their thing on drums and keys, while Murphy gets drenched from unidentified rain shower ala The Truman Show. Well someone, and that someone would be director Michael J. Green, decided to legofy(is that a word?) Murphy and the rest of the band for a video. While the video is pretty much a shot for shot remakes, the band members are now plastic toys. That's enough for me. Enjoy.
