We're right in the thick of the dog days of August, and we all need some headbanging to spice up our lives. That's why metal giants Mastodon have conveniently released a new song for us all to enjoy. Titled "Curl of the Burl," it's a lot catchier than other stuff I've heard from them, but it's no less badass or heavy. The chorus riff explodes with rhythm, making head-nodding irresistible, and the verse's melody is memorable - even slightly poppy, but it doesn't sacrifice the metal ethos that diehard fans will expect. Listen to the song, accompanied by a video of a trek through the forest, via the band's YouTube channel. A more official music video is in the works.
