Weekly Remix: Beirut Remixed by Jay McKay

Beirut's 2009 album March of the Zapotec was really a split album of sorts.  The first half, the Zapotec half, was what we have come to expect from the band:  Eastern European folk meets South Western influences.  The second half of the album, which went under the name of  Holland was a collection of melodic electronic infused numbers made under the Beirut front man Zach Condon's Realpeople alias.  The five Holland tracks were strangely dreamy and even danceable at times, especially the track "My Night with the Prostitute from Marseille".  The (digital) release of Beirut's great new album, The Rip Tide, has kept me in full Beirut mode so my searches for a remix for this post had the band in mind.  The aforementioned Realpeople track was given a lush remix by Jay McKay  While the remix does not stray too far from the original track, heavy synths replace the blippy opening notes.  Delicate keys and percussion create a much more laid back real to the song, something refreshing for a remix.  Enjoy.
