Weekly Remix: Grizzly Bear's "Don't Ask"

CANT, the solo release from Grizzly Bear bassist/producer Chris Taylor, got me thinking that it has been a while since we heard any new material from the indie foursome out of Brooklyn.  Their last release, 2009's Veckatimest, was a chamber pop masterpiece, but outside from a few collaborations and scoring the awesomely depressing Blue Valentine, we have been decidedly free of any new music updates from Grizzly Bear for over two years and counting.  For today's remix, I wanted to dig a little deeper into Grizzly Bear's catalog for a remix of "Don't Ask", from their much folkier, lo-fi 2005 debut Horns of Plenty.  Singer Ed Droste's weary vocals, which on the original recording tended to hang slightly in the back ground, are now front and center as the acoustic guitars are stripped away and replaced with a slow, steady beat and keys that recall some of Air's more darker moments. Onc the track hits the 2:50 mark, the tempo picks up as gorgeous synths lift the normally languid track to new heights.
