Last month, post-punk outfit the Walkmen stopped by Seattle affiliate KXEP before playing a show in Seattle and treated audiences to a hand full of Johnny Cash songs for an intimate session. Well, to be clear, not all were Cash songs, but rather Cash versions of other artists including Bob Dylan, Lovin Spoonful, and Dominic Behan that the Man in Black covered over his career. One of the true Cash songs the Walkmen tackled was "Mr. Lonesome". The band retains the sad, defeated feel of the song in lead singer Hamilton Leithauser's aching vocals as the backing guitar jangle, however subtle it may be, is nothing if not the Walkmen. Enjoy.
