I was gonna do a post about Don Henley being a total dick, but that's gone on the back-burner after today's frankly fan____ingtastic news that Radiohead is playing Downsview Park in Toronto June 16th. Downsview Park is of course the site of the Sars-Stock the Rolling Stones put on in 2003 after the Sars scare decimated Ontario's tourism trade, featuring AC/DC, The Flaming Lips, The Isley Brothers, The Tragically Hip, and Justin Timberlake. While it's highly doubtful that Radiohead is going to put on something on that scale, the fact that they are playing a larger venue means we might actually get tickets when they go on sale March 9th.
As a longtime Radiohead fan, this is pretty cool because that's been my only knock on them and the only beef I've had with the band- that they've always held back supply in the face of overwhelming demand. Seriously, landing Radiohead tickets off of Ticketmaster is like dreaming the impossible dream or pulling off a Triple Lindy on your first try. For years, it's been one turn on the Ticketmaster Internet whirlygig and out because the show is already sold out. Yes I've seen them three times previously, but there were highly extenuating circumstances: 1) I saw them open for R.E.M. at the Aud back in '95 (seniority has it's been benefits), 2) the 2003 show was luck after their Molson Amphitheatre show was postponed and moved to the Air Canada Centre, opening up tickets in the nosebleeds, and 3) I got Stubhubbed up the wazzoo in 2008. Was it worth it? It was one of the best shows I've ever been to, of course it was worth it. In 2012 though my wallet and I am are feeling sort of good about our prospects.
Tickets for Radiohead at Downsview Park, Toronto on June 16th go on sale March 9th. Tickets are $81. Caribou opens. Good luck. Thanks to Funkadelic for the title of the post.

Is Sars-Stock still the biggest concert in North American history??? I know it decimated all the fests and Woodstock.
I just Googled that shit and indeed it is according to wiki Answers. Radiohead ain't gonna do anything like that, but I'm hoping for at least 40,000, double what they'd get at the Molson Amphitheater. They could easily get 60,000 or more. It depends on how much demand they want to sate and how much money they want to make because the demand is always insane. That pay as you go "In Rainbows" really paid off.
I have a bad feeling about getting tickets to this, but I'll give it a shot anyway.
this show is on my birthday too... last year I saw Fucked Up, Off, and PS I Love You in Toronto on the same day. I guess I might be going back... it's tradition!
