The weather forecast for tonight says it will still be above 60 degrees in Buffalo at 9pm. That is great news for those of us who want to go out and see some awesome rock n' roll this evening and pretend it is a glorious Thursday in late June.
There will be a riot in Allentown tonight when The Evil Things and The Fairweathers invade DBGB's at 253 Allen Street. Both bands call Buffalo home and each brings their own unique style of stripped down, take no prisoners, rock.
The Evil Things are steeped in Americana and roots rock styling, The rhythm section is anchored by walking bass lines delivered on a stand-up bass while the melodies are sweetened by the wonderful honk of a saxophone.
The Fairweathers (pictured above) pay homage to the optimism of the 1950's with a delectable brand of music that combines space age pop with lo-fi garage and pre-Beatles rock n' roll. Shimmering, punchy guitar is the big draw here. "Another Stray", the song below, takes me out of my house and transplants me directly on a boardwalk somewhere with an ice cream cone and roller skates.
These two bands are perfect for a beautiful day like today... I think I might go to the beach now, see you tonight on Allen!
